Mornington
Peninsula Online
Business and Tourism Directory
ABOUT MPO
Back in 1996 Ross
Wilson, the director of Southern Cross, decided to develop an
Online guide to the Mornington Peninsula. This was an exercise
to both learn more about web design and construction, in what
was then a very new industry, and to secondly promote the Mornington
Peninsula where he has spent most of his life.
Southern Cross, as
a local ISP, merged with Foxnet to form Satlink Internet Services
and grew to be the largest Internet Provider on the Mornington
Peninsula.
The Mornington Peninsula
Guide also grew in popularity being both linked from the Satlink
web site and coming up as number 1 in the search engines
Satlink Internet
Services was sold to Chariot in 2004 but Ross retained the guide
and renamed it Mornington Peninsula Online (MPO). It was then
further enhanced and updated to a full data base application with
improved resources and features.
Nick Le Page, a local
programmer and web designer who had worked on the site and the
data base bought MPO in 2008 and is working on further development
of this popular directory.
With the huge growth
in the Internet and more and more people turning to the Net to
find what they are looking for, the hardest thing for businesses
wanting to market themselves on the Internet, is to be found.
This is where a Regional
Directory like MPO comes to the forefront. It is already found and
ranking in the search engines and locals use it to look up names and
addresses or perhaps decide where to go for dinner.
MPO is now attracting
over 15,000 hits per day
So even if you already
have your own web site, to make the most of it, you should be
linked from MPO
If you don't have a web
site yet, you can start with your own web page in the MPO directory
at very little cost.
